Garrison Keillor's May 2008 show in Maine

April 3, 2008 Mr. Keillor,

When your May '08 Bangor PHC show was first announced last August '07, it was already SOLD OUT. We here in Maine doubted that, believing the public was being hand picked for your show due to the raging controversy Maine Public Radio caused over their July '07 firing of humorist Robert Skoglund, aka the Humble Farmer, after 28 years of entertaining us on the public airwaves.

Thousands of us cancelled our support in protest, and the outrage continues to this day. Please do us and American democracy (small d) a favor, and invite Skoglund to be on your show. Not having Maine's most popular and venerable humorist would be like attending a great country fair and seeing no vegetables, or an Olympics with second rate athletes.

Skoglund courageously refused to sign MPR's repressive guidelines/ loyalty oath, and it cost him his job. These rules are so bad that if Will Rogers showed up on the steps of MPR, he'd be barred. No true American, especially not a humorist, could have signed. And even though your fans in Maine were never given a chance to see your show in Bangor, you could speak truth to power and invite "humble" onto your show. He's an experienced performer on radio and stage for the last thirty years. He could fill your bill at a moment's notice. Thousands of us here in Maine would be deeply grateful, and you would be adding your Voice (big V) to ours in the fight against fear and repression that descends ever more heavily on our nation with each passing day.

Please say YES.

humbly,

Marta Daniels
